Safer sex and health: standards that apply to everyone

When it comes to safer sex, many people talk around the subject. In the escort context, though, things are clear. There is a standard, and it applies to both sides. This article explains what that means in practice and which options Gingr has built in for it.

Why safer sex is the standard in the escort context

Safer sex is the standard in the escort context because people meet here who regularly have changing contacts. The condom is the basis of every date. Not one option among several, but the precondition for a meeting to happen at all.

This has nothing to do with distrust. An escort who insists on a condom is saying nothing about you as a person. She works professionally. And the same standard protects her too. Anyone who meets many people carries more responsibility, in both directions.

That is why this text is deliberately not a client guide. The standard applies to everyone who meets through Gingr. To clients just as much as to escorts. Anyone who sees it as an annoying rule has missed the point: it makes dates more relaxed, because one question is settled from the start.

"Without" is not up for negotiation

Anyone who demands "without" in the chat or at the date crosses a line. This is not an extra wish like a certain outfit or a special scenario. It is a demand to take a health risk, for both people involved.

For clients, this means: a no is final. There is no surcharge that outweighs it, and no charming follow-up question that makes it negotiable. Anyone who insists usually ends the date, not the discussion. What else belongs to a respectful meeting is covered in the rules for a good date.

For escorts, the reverse applies: you set your standards yourself, and the platform stands behind them. If a client demands "without", you neither have to go through with it nor cushion it diplomatically. You can report such incidents, directly via your account. A cancelled date in a case like this is not a business loss. It is part of the job, handled professionally.

Testing: where and how often?

The short answer: all over Switzerland, and as often as fits your life. Testing services are available everywhere, from checkpoints in the larger cities to your GP's practice. We deliberately do not give a blanket recommendation on how often a test makes sense. That depends on your situation, and there are professionals for that.

Medical questions belong in medical hands. Which tests exist and what they cover is explained by the specialist services listed below, much of it anonymously. We deliberately stay at the surface here. Not out of convenience, but because half-knowledge does more harm than good when it comes to health.

The principle behind it matters more than any detail: testing is your own responsibility, on both sides. Nobody takes it off your hands. Not even a platform.

What Gingr checks and what it does not

Gingr checks identity, age and content. What the Trust Labels check is described in detail in the guide. Gingr does not check health status. A profile is not a health certificate, and we do not claim otherwise. This honesty is uncomfortable, but it is the point: a promise that no platform can keep is one you should not trust anywhere.

What exists instead: escorts can upload an STI check to their profile. The certificate is valid for three months, after that it expires. The details are set out in the STI policy.

And the proof works in both directions. ID-verified escorts can specify that they can only be booked by clients with a valid STI test. As an escort, you find the setting under "Settings", then "Client preference", option "Only accept clients with a valid STI test". This means the proof no longer rests with escorts alone.

Both are voluntary, there is no testing obligation on Gingr. Which is exactly why the benchmark remains the date itself: condom only, no discussion.

Where to find support

Two specialist organisations cover most questions. The Swiss AIDS Federation offers advice on HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, anonymously and free of charge. Sexual Health Switzerland is the umbrella organisation of the counselling centres and keeps a directory of addresses for all regions.

Further points of contact, including services specifically for sex workers, are collected on our Care page. If a question is on your mind, go there. Counselling is more accessible than many people think.

Frequently asked questions

Can I insist on safer sex at the date?

Yes, always. As an escort, you set the standard yourself, as a client you may demand it just the same. Nobody has to justify it, on either side.

Are escorts on Gingr tested?

There is no testing obligation, and Gingr does not check health status. Escorts can, however, voluntarily upload an STI check, which is valid for three months. Whether a current certificate is on file is shown in the respective profile.

What to do if the other person demands "without"?

Decline, no discussion. As an escort, you can additionally report the incident via the platform. As a client, you should turn down such an offer just as clearly, in your own interest.

Where can I get tested?

All over Switzerland, often anonymously. The address directories of the Swiss AIDS Federation and Sexual Health Switzerland show you the services in your region.
