Positions on the passenger seat

Of the two front seats, the passenger seat is the better one, because the only thing in front of it is the glove box. Slide the seat all the way back and recline the backrest as far as the car allows. With electric seat adjustment, depending on the model, the ignition has to be switched on briefly for that. This creates a sloping surface on which the person on top has room for their knees.

Cowgirl

In a car it is the classic, and rightly so. The person underneath lies on the reclined backrest. The person on top kneels on the seat, one leg on the left and one on the right. The knees bump into the door and the centre console, there is no way around that. A jacket between knee and console helps a little. The back seat is wider than any front seat, but also shorter than you think. An average back seat is 120 to 140 centimetres long. Nobody can stretch out fully on it, but it is enough for anything sitting, kneeling or lying on your side.

Doggy

The person in front kneels on the seat, rests their forearms on the door armrest or the window edge and keeps their head down. The person behind kneels behind them, possibly with one leg in the footwell. That sounds uncomfortable, and on the first attempt it is. From the second time on you know where the knees go. Tall people lie diagonally across the seat and gain ten centimetres that way. With doggy the car rocks the most, and that is visible from outside. Spooning

Both lie on their side on the seat, legs bent, because otherwise they do not fit. It does not get calmer than this: the car barely moves, and you can talk at the same time if you feel like it. The width is the problem. A back seat is too narrow for two people side by side, and whoever is lying at the back hangs half over the edge. A blanket that hangs down over the seat edge cushions that. With the back seats folded down, everything looks different. Fold the seats, empty the boot, lay down two blankets, and you have a surface 170 to 200 centimetres long, in other words a narrow bed. Two blankets, one to lie on and one for afterwards. Clothes that open quickly, so nobody has to peel themselves out of trousers with five buttons, ideally a skirt or jogging bottoms. Wet and dry wipes, within reach and not somewhere under the seat. Water. And park the car so that you can get out afterwards without standing in another car's headlights.
