Which canton has the highest demand for escorts
Where is it worth working as an escort? Most decide by gut feeling, by what colleagues tell them, or simply by where they already live. Since October there are numbers. The study on search demand for escort services in Switzerland looked at which canton searches how often for escort terms. I co-wrote it, and here I pull out what it can tell you about choosing a location. Less than you might think. But more than nothing.
Where people search most per capita
Ticino leads, and by a wide margin. The study estimates 74 searches with escort terms per 1,000 residents per month there. Then come Jura with 32, Valais with 28, Geneva with 27 and Vaud with 25. Zurich sits at 14, in 11th place, and Appenzell Ausserrhoden brings up the rear with 8. These are estimates, not measurements per canton, because Google only reports regions as an index and the study combines that index with search volumes and population figures.
Per capita is only half the picture, though. In absolute terms the order looks different: Ticino around 26,500 searches a month, Zurich 22,800, Vaud 21,800, Geneva 14,600. So Zurich has a thin density and still a large market, because a lot of people live there. For an escort both matter. Density says something about how present the topic is in a region. The absolute number says how many enquiries there are at all.
Why Geneva appears twice
Geneva is the canton where the study is at its most honest. Calculated by where the searchers live, Geneva ranks 4th with 27 per 1,000. Calculated by the place names that appear in the searches, Geneva jumps to 1st with 49 per 1,000 and, at 26,380 place-linked escort searches, has more than any other canton. But if you strip out all searches that could come from just across the border, Geneva drops to 11 and 18th place in the strictest scenario.
Three calculations, three ranks. I don't know which of them comes closest to reality, and the study doesn't claim to either. The truth probably lies in between: Geneva is a place many people search for, and some of those people live in France. Ticino, by contrast, stays in front in every scenario, at 31 per 1,000 in the strictest. Anyone offering escorts in Ticino has the most stable demand in the country. Anyone working as an escort in Geneva has plenty of demand and plenty of uncertainty about where it comes from.
What the border does to the numbers
Demand also travels the other way. Around 21,000 searches a month from Switzerland target escorts in the foreign border region, 8,670 of them for Como and 6,420 for Annemasse. For escorts in Ticino and Geneva that means the competition is not only in their own canton but 20 minutes past the border, usually at lower prices. The study only measures how often people search, not who ends up booking. But a search for Como is a search that did not go to Lugano.
Latin Switzerland searches differently
Per capita, Latin Switzerland searches for escort terms around 2.5 times as often as German-speaking Switzerland, still 1.8 times in the strictest border scenario. That does not mean there is less demand in Zurich or Bern. German-speaking Switzerland uses different words. For terms like "escort" or "escorte", the German-speaking cantons sit at 11 to 19 on the Google index, but for the pattern "sex in" plus a place name they sit at 38 to 100, and in Latin Switzerland it is exactly the other way round. In this contact search, Zurich and Bern each reach over 120,000 searches a month.
In practice this matters more than the canton ranking. An escort in Lausanne is found through the word "escorte". An escort in Winterthur is found through the place name. Same demand, different language.
When people search
The year has two peaks. In July, "escort" runs 9 percent above its annual average, "escorte" 18 percent. In December it is the contact search: "sex date" then runs 33 percent above average. Anyone planning travel can use that. How bookings around business trips work is covered in the article on escorts on a business trip in Switzerland, and for January there is the piece on escorts at the WEF in Davos.
What this means for choosing a location
Less than the tables suggest. The study counts searches, not people and not bookings. It does not know whether 74 searches per 1,000 Ticinesi come from ten curious people or seventy serious ones. And it does not measure supply. A canton with high demand and many escorts can feel worse for the individual than a canton with medium demand and little competition. Prices differ by region as well, more on that in the article on setting prices as an escort.
What the numbers do offer is a correction to gut feeling. Ticino is a bigger market than most escorts in German-speaking Switzerland assume. Zurich is thinner per capita than its reputation suggests. And anyone working in German-speaking Switzerland should build their profile around place names, not around the word escort. Whether that brings more encounters in the end only shows in practice. But at least you no longer start from zero.
